Mint Medical Education introduces a new course and case study review system for Vascular Ultrasound Image Interpretation by Physicians

May 22, 2013 – Mint Medical Education, the education division of ultrasound services firm Mint Medical, today announced its first new course since opening a new training center in downtown San Francisco. The three-day Vascular Interpretation Preceptorship (VIP) is designed for vascular surgeons, cardiologists, and radiologists preparing for the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) examination.

Participants in the course will be among the first to access a new online Case Study Review and Learning Management System, with more than 500 patient case studies derived from Mint Medical’s extensive library of vascular ultrasound images. The online review system and collaborative course offerings will assist physicians who are seeking credentials in the growing field of vascular medicine. Obtaining an RPVI credential will be a requirement for board certification in vascular surgery as of 2014, and also meets the physician training and experience criteria for the vascular laboratory accreditation process.

The Preceptorship represents the first of an extensive new set of educational services and tools in development at Mint Medical Education, explains company CEO Brad Hummel. “This VIP course and Case Study Review System leverage Mint Medical’s years of experience in radiology and our huge library of images to educate medical professionals.” Hummel says. “We’re listening carefully to what providers say they need, and we’re developing programs – both in-person and online – to help them meet their professionals goals.”

The course combines up to three days of in-person lecture, discussion and collaborative learning with access to more than 500 cases from Mint’s case study library for interpretation and assessment. The coursework will cover physics, cerebrovascular, venous, arterial, and abdominal vasculature.

The first preceptorship course is planned for July, and will be limited to a small group of physicians. However, Mint has many VIP courses planned throughout 2013, and anticipates making its Case Study Review System widely available online no later than August. See the Mint Medical Education website for more information.

Case Study Review and Learning Management System

Mint Medical has provided vascular laboratory and radiology services to hospital partners in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1998. The company maintains archives of case studies compiled from years of providing ultrasound services, and performs more than 15,000 patient scans each year. An innovative online Case Study Review and Learning Management System will leverage this library and provide users with a wide variety of patient circumstances and imaging for study and interpretation. This will be particularly helpful to physicians and other allied health professionals who can benefit from the review of large numbers of images for training and credentialing, such as RPVI, which calls for analysis of 500 studies.
