Course Summary

This training course is designed for the practitioner interested in the ultrasound evaluation of the non-gravid pelvis. Lecture includes basic physics, image orientation, and knobology. Transabdominal and transvaginal scanning technique and protocol are reviewed along with pathology and case studies. Hands-on instruction in our scan lab on live patients will solidify the concepts acquired during lecture. Transvaginal scanning is included.

This Course is intended for Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Midwives, Physician Assistants, Sonographers and Perinatal Registered Nurse.

Course Objectives

  • Perform a basic non-gravid ultrasound exam
  • Accurately identify the uterus, ovaries, endometrium and cervix
  • Accurately locate and measure the uterus, ovaries, and endometrium
  • Identify common pathology and normal physiologic changes
  • Identify an IUD for placement
  • Understand image orientation and tips in finding the ovaries
  • Understand basic ultrasound physics and artifacts
  • Understand common pathology, indications, and limitations of ultrasound
