Introduction to Pelvic Ultrasound Hands-On Training

Course Summary

This training course is designed for the practitioner interested in the ultrasound evaluation of the non-gravid pelvis. Lecture includes basic physics, image orientation, knobology, normal anatomy and pathology. Transabdominal and transvaginal scanning technique and protocol are reviewed along with case studies. Hands-on instruction in will solidify the concepts acquired during lecture.
The presentational method for this activity will be Lecture with Q&A, Case Presentation with Learner Participation, and Hands-on Demonstration. This activity is geared to meet the educational requirements of OB/GYN Physicians and Family Practice Physicians, however, all physician specialties, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives and ultrasound technologists are welcome to attend. This activity will encompass the following desirable physician attributes: Patient Care & Procedural Skills, Medical Knowledge, Professionalism, and Practice-Based Learning & Improvement.

CME Credits

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ are available for this course.  The number of credits is dependent on the training curriculum.

Course Objectives

  • Perform a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound properly, while maintaining a culturally-sensitive approach to patient care
  • Identify and measure the endometrium properly
  • Identify and measure the uterus and ovaries properly
  • Identify abnormalities of the uterus, endometrium and ovaries
