Did you know…it’s the Year of Ultrasound?

In Mint’s latest news feature, we take a quick look at the Ultrasound First campaign, launched earlier this year in an effort to raise awareness that ultrasound can often be used as an alternative to other imaging techniques that might be more expensive, invasive or involve radiation exposure. Take a look at some of the specific medical situations the campaign cites, and let us know here in the comments what you think about ultrasound’s use in these circumstances. And what about the argument by one physician that routine use of ultrasound to evaluate potential appendicitis in children?

Also, as part of the campaign the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine has declared 2013 the Year of Ultrasound. How are you celebrating?
