Varicose Vein Campaign Features Swimmer

Varicose veins are not just a cosmetic issue, contends a new campaign called Rethink Varicose Veins. The campaign, supported by a number of vascular medicine organizations and Covidien, points out that varicose veins can progress to a more serious form of venous disease, chronic venous insufficiency. The campaign uses the story of Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders, who was experiencing heaviness and pain in her legs; an ultrasound evaluation found venous insufficiency. She was treated with a minimally invasive procedure and found relief. The campaign offers information for patients, a self-assessment tool, and a physician referral section.
